FTC Season 2021-2022
Meeting Entry: (November 27, 2021)
At last, the long awaited day arrived… competition day! Before the team headed down, they touched up some final things and added slots on their robot for the alliance markers. Once they got checked in (staying COVID safe!), they went over the rules and made sure that everything on their robot was within them and that their capstone shipping element was acceptable. They discovered that they needed to have 2 license plates, 180 degrees apart from each other so they attached them on the left and right sides of the robot. The team had been pretty nervous about the measurements of their robot so they were relieved when they passed the inspection. Now the countdown to the first match has begun and the Silverfish are making their last minute fixes, triple checking measurements and tightening all the screws.
Before each match, the team met with their alliance team to discuss what strategies to do and which robot would do what in order to ensure the most points and least penalties.
Match 1 of 5: Red Alliance with Lightning Bots (16205)
Off to a bit of a rocky start… the autonomous did not do much but the team was able to move some of the shipping elements to the shared hub. Unfortunately, their robot kept pushing the hub over as it tried to put the blocks onto the hub. This led to a -150 penalty for the red alliance, because the other red team also received penalties. This wouldn’t stop the Celtic Silverfish, they were determined to make Mr. de Asis proud!
Match 2 of 5: Red Alliance with Tsunami Bots (19573)
Well… this was quite an eventful match. The team’s robot crashed into the alliance team’s during the autonomous and fell over. And for the rest of the match, the robot lay on the ground, unable to get up. Somehow, the red alliance won over the blue, a shocking victory for the team!
Match 3 of 5: Blue Alliance with A.I.M. Bot Robotics (16448)
The autonomous drove straight into the shipping elements and robot started picking up blocks once it was driver controlled. During this match, the team successfully transported freight from the warehouse to the shared hub. Even though the blue alliance lost, the Celtic Silverfish moved up from 9th place (last place) to 6th.
Match 4 of 5: Blue Alliance with Sheep Robotics (20341)
The autonomous performed the same way that it did during the previous match and once it was the driver controlled period, the robot brought the shipping elements to the alliance hub. They were able to get several ducks during endgame. The blue alliance won and the team upgraded from 7th to 4th place!
Match 5 of 5: Blue Alliance with Forces Unknown (16267)
The Celtic Silverfish had competed in the match directly before their fifth so they barely had time to discuss a strategy with their alliance team. The teams quickly devised a plan, the Celtics focused on transporting freight to the alliance hub, while the other team did the shared hub. Eventually, they switched and the Silverfish brought the shipping elements to the shared hub while the other blue alliance team did the ducks. It was a great final match for the Celtic Silverfish as their alliance won!
Once all the matches were over, the team was relieved to find out that they had remained in 4th place. Just above the halfway mark so they considered it a win! The competition was a rollercoaster but they were satisfied with how things ended. They now know what improvements they need to make to their robot and are looking forward to future competitions! Way to go, team!
